Mark felt in love with Charles Langdon’s sister, Olivia. They married with each other in February 1870. They got a son, who died after 19 months, of diphtheria. Later they got tree daughters, Susy, Clara and Jean. His wife died in 1904.

In 1900, Mark were visit London, to be a guest to newspaper proprietor Hugh Gilzean Reid. He wrote for him, and he wrote that he had never seen a more satisfactorily country, with all the noble trees.
